Description
8th in a series of stories, poems, and musings of this life we find ourselves in.
-Dear Diary,
It seems like an eternity since I was free to roam just beyond the glass paneled doorway that led to a world I no longer recognize. To blame are a few letters and numbers that under any other circumstance would have seemed randomly forced together, but now have meaning, painting images of uncertainty, fear, and loss: COVID-19. I must admit that I struggle not to feel helpless as the governing bodies sworn to protect me make difficult choices about how I get to live my life, taking away basic freedoms for the sake of the greater good. I fail, but work to remind myself that while these new restrictions are a challenge, both physically and financially, how I respond emotionally to these roadblocks is, and has always been, in my power to control. This unseen global terrorist has managed to bring normalcy to a halt, but, in some similar fashion in the wake of 911, has awakened many of us to re-examine our lives, to halt, a choice we have not been given, and take stock of what is important. Some say that trials and tribulations test one’s character, but the greater truth is that they reveal one’s character. I wish I could say that I’ve been pleased by all I’ve discovered, but I know that there is hope and power in knowledge, however unsettling it may be. Time is more on my side these days, another benefit of this new life, as I have fewer demands to beguile me into looking the other way, unchanged. I can work on myself more. I can work on my art more. This brings me some comfort. It is true that the amenities I’ve enjoyed have diminished, I can see a new benefits have taken their place Just Beyond The Glass: Differences are set aside, goodwill emerges, and though we are physically separated, I see we are closer together than ever before as we stand united against a common enemy. See you tomorrow, Ken
