Description
Abstract painting taking inspiration from "The Scream.... the popular name given to a composition created by Norwegian Expressionist artist Edvard Munch in 1893 (Wikipedia)" and the desert landscape of Arrakis, the planet in the movie Dune. Simultaneously, it reflects the artist's search for wisdom during times of great difficulty.
Desert Scream by Ken Walker
I have a story waiting to be
shared.
Would that you had ears
to hear. Wisdom,
welcomes you this day:..βStay,
dine and be well
fed.β Morsels of exotic meat
and fine wine I offered you
but as precious water spent
upon sandy dunes, dried up,
soon forgotten,
my words are wasted on a heart
of stone. Unmovable.
I scream.
Will you hear me or venture farther
into madness, the desert
of your errant choices?
Artist Note - "As I was working on this, I was struck by how much this reminded me of "the Scream". I've always like that imagery, something haunting for sure, but also something familiar - that moment of catharsis when I just have to let out a scream, cries from the depth of my pain. As I sat with that idea, I also began to think about what that scream might be - maybe a part of me trying to get my attention? like wisdom might cry out "LISTEN TO ME BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!" I have been walking through a very challenging moment, and listening has been harder as fear and worry take hold. As a reader of the bible, I found the ideas from Proverbs to be the inspiration for the accompanying poem casting wisdom as a person desiring to be heard, but having his words fall on deaf ears. Out of one last attempt to save a life, wisdom SCREAMS.
Interestingly enough, I also included some poetic imagery from the Dune movies, specifically referencing a scene in the 80's Lynch version where Paul destroys a pillar of stone using a special weapon that turns words into destructive energy."

MUTE! I am mute , cannot speak, find the words, 'say' ! Would that I too could scream! Stunning mystical imagery, Ken, perfect foil to your 'scream'. I will be back to this again and again because the Wisdom is so beautifully written, so to read, thus to hear, quietly, though my soul screams in simpatico, my Friend. Masterpiece: enigmatic, painterly, fascinating, YOU at your best, so subtle! Kudos, Master !.......f.v. VIVA π

Late night wisdom to share and hear - from you dearest one. Thank you for listening to the scream. Let our voices be heard above the cacophony of madness.
