Water in the Desert
I am thirsty.
I keep drinking salt water
in the desert,
a constant barrage of heat and dryness.
I know a path
And where it leads me -
an endless supply of water
spilling out over the top,
the cliff’s horizon.
Crashing down
the rocks below are wet,
cool,
satisfied.
But I do not budge.
Exposed to the elements
I deny myself relief
for the road is narrow.
Things I’ve collected during my time
traversing
this wasteland
won’t fit through the eye of the needle.
I must leave them behind:
Shame,
Unforgiveness,
Want,
Easy pleasure.
They do not belong
under the raging water
Still,
I am thirsty.
I keep drinking salt water
in the desert,
a constant barrage of heat and dryness.
I know a path
And where it leads me -
an endless supply of water.
Oh, to drop this heavy load!
Run.
Dive all in.
The intent of this image, in general, is to reflect on the healthy, life-giving things we know we should immerse ourselves into. Yet, for many, this road seems so difficult to navigate and the cost too high. The payment for entry is to "let go". To get to that side, we have to let go of everything that isn't beneficial, all the extra weights we carry and hold onto. This applies to all walks of life, faith and creed. It is a common understanding that the more we let go, the more we bet back, in positive life-affirming additives. Additional note of interest:
This image was created before realizing that the original title was "Abstract Desert Horizon" Great minds think alike LOL.
Artist Note - "For those that are fellow Believers in Christ, this becomes especially meaningful as we pursue wholeness. The journey is less about "getting to" but more about "staying in" the waterfall, the love and acceptance that is available to us . But we must let go, for as soon as we allow ourselves to become encumbered by the weights of life, we find ours on the other side of the needle, unable to find our way back until we, once again, surrender ourselves."

Ken, Love that you added a waterfall. Flipping the sun and the image is a great touch. You may have noticed that I have several pictures that are designed to be "Flippable". Looks like you found one of them. Love your innovations. Thank you for entering my EDIT MY ART v.2021.10 contest. Best of luck.
