Description
First in a follow-up series, The Story Vol. 2 and another addition to a series of Industrial/Urban themed works. The character of Charlie was inspired by Supernatural on the CW.
- Charlie had been confident that life was going her way. She was a highly sought-after security consultant for some large tech companies needing protection against her kind, the super hacker. At 29, her hacker days were behind her, and she was making a killing in the consulting racket, which was ironic considering the number of viruses she was hired to protect against contained coding based on viruses she had created not that long ago. Charlie had grown out of the grandiose crusade to conquer “the man”, obviously considering that she was working for him, but her need for new adventure was something deep within her DNA, and maybe that is why as her 30th birthday loomed in the horizon, she was beginning to feel something missing. Most of her friends and colleagues where married by now with children, a dog, and the picket fence, which was fine for them, but not for her she always said. Now she wasn’t so sure. It wasn’t that she was falling for the societal box people wanted to lock her into, on the contrary, she was happy with who she had become, a noble misfit just enough off the beaten path to be interesting, but also conforming to enough social norms by her own volition to have the career of her dreams. Charlie sighed, closed her laptop and moved to the window of her loft apartment, taking her cup of morning coffee with her and, staring down on the streets already roaring to life at 5 in the morning, felt her heart ache.
