- As he made his way to the cafe for his morning coffee, Ian stopped walking, transfixed. There was just something about her, the way she stood there in silent beauty sipping her morning brew with such reverence that stirred in him emotions he had long hidden away. Apart from the once brief attempt at a normal relationship a few years back, he had mostly resigned himself to the kind of heartless, practical business arrangement that people in his circle accepted as the norm. Now doubts were signaling that perhaps he had given up on hope prematurely. As the son of the founder and CEO of one of the largest consulting firms in the country, Dormant Solutions, he had from an early age been groomed to be his father’s replacement upon retirement. That day was fast approaching so, Ian, who had always been more of a people person than his father, decided to start from the ground up, taking on an I.T. position at one of the companies branches to get a different view of the company he was poised to command. Now he was going to be late on his first day. Not a great start. Though he was feeling a bit stalkerish staring at a stranger in an open window from his side of the street at 5 in the morning, Ian was helpless to look away, besides, was there anything wrong with being mesmerized by a great work of art? Ian watched her disappear from the window and let out a long sigh. He could feel his heart pushing his thoughts to wonder what it might be like to stand next to her, holding her, but he knew the Ian of just moments ago would never allow himself to get that close. And that was it for him. He needed to find the doorway to a life better lived and he was confident now, more than ever, that “The Way In” was in front of him.
