Description
Experimental Concept art reflecting on the differing perspectives and how they affect us.
Artist Note - "A departure from my norm, this idea came to me during a recent walk as I was working out the pros and cons of a particular troubling life altering decision for my business. Going back and forth, I took a moment and stepped outside my process of thinking, watching myself going back and forth presenting my case like two armor-clad lawyers battling out for the win. All this, Perspective – how funny that I am able to look at this issue from two sides – each compelling in its arguments. It was here that this image came to me. A woman relaxing at the beach while off in the distance an atomic mushroom cloud. The concept: Perspective.
One: The viewer may look at this image and identify the woman as being in denial of the danger ahead. How can she be so cavalier about her impending doom? Does she care about anything other than her own moment of satisfaction? This would be a reasonable take-away from this image. There are many going about their lives content to look away from anything that brings them discomfort. As a famous quote goes: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Two: The viewer may look at this image and identifying the woman as being calm in the midst of fear, living out hope in the midst of tragedy, simply choosing to live life in the fullest despite the death that awaits her. She understands that death waits for us all and so life is a precious commodity not to be squandered on worry, regret, or fear. She is going to “go out on her terms” – enjoying her time at the beach for however long that lasts. She is not in denial or a victim but empowered to make her choice on how she wants to live."
