Description
10th abstract in a series of stories, poems, and musings of this life we find ourselves in and was also inspired by the Soundgarden song "Black Hole Sun".
- Take a diamond and hold it to the light and it will sparkle, casting the light’s rays into a rainbow of colors. Now place the diamond on a black felt cloth and that same diamond will outshine the diamond in the light, its colors more intense and brilliant against the backdrop of darkness. There is something to be gleaned by this analogy and how we choose to memorialize the troubled times we face. A painful moment can be the frame by which we are able to contextualize that which we hold most dear. In dark times, we are better able to see the true character of our nature, which will always shine more brightly when faced with challenges. These experiences bring meaning, change, and new hope to our lives in a way that “good times” cannot. As we all struggle to hold onto hope, our sanity, and our livelihood, let us keep in mind how much sweeter it will be when we are all on the other side of this current crisis. How much more we all will appreciate the freedom to congregate, to breathe in public, and to hold one another’s hand (I pray that has not met its end). I for one am looking forward to the day I can go out to dinner and have a drink with the ones I love. Until then, I will work to hold onto hope for a better tomorrow at the end of this eclipse, the “Black Hole Sun”.
