The Path
First step.
Narrow is the road stretching
beyond vision – the path
less taken.
Second step.
A moment to ponder how wise
in my own eyes I had been,
a foolish boy,
heartbroken and lost. Lessons of the past
I had not honored–Condemned
now to repeat. Second chances
by Grace given to tread forward.
Third step.
I walk alongside the old
wiseman taking note of each footstep
resolute and mindful.
Fourth step.
“Take what you need. Only that
which you cannot carry for the passage
ahead is narrow and perilous. Take heart,
young man, do not be discouraged. A reward
awaits those who follow
the gentle guidance of Wisdom, traversing through
valleys unknown, future unseen, ensured
of the hope at journey’s end. I have
traveled this way before. Follow me!”
