Description
A new figurative abstract:
During a short walk today, I took my time enjoying the change in the weather, cold but heightening my thoughts with crisp clarity. My path was wet from last night’s rainfall and littered with nature’s detritus, evidence of the storm’s powerful winds. It was near the end when I came across fallen maple leaves arranged artistically on the sidewalk now a grainy canvas on which this new art piece was showcased. Immediately a phrase, a concept, resonated deep in my heart - “The Fallen Ones.” So shortly after the anniversary of 911, and in the current consciousness, the War on Terror, it was easy to connect the dots, recalling the stories of the brave men and women, soldiers, first responders, who gave up their lives that I could one day write this down for others to read and memorialize their sacrifices. But while I seek to always honor all who jump into the fray without thought to self, I realized that a deeper meaning was working its way to the forefront of my mind. Life being so precious, and so fragile, I asked myself how many times have I interacted with those I know, or more so, complete strangers, never knowing these “fallen ones” were one step away from being lost forever, a missed opportunity to show love, mercy, and grace in a thoughtful word of encouragement, or perhaps just a friendly smile! . My heart broke. I thought of the serendipitous moments from my past that had it not been for a simple act of kindness I might have been scattered across the pavement, much like these maple leaves I saw before me now. The moral of the story is clear: We matter to each other. The choices we make, however insignificant they may seem to us, may be the difference between life and death for the lonely senior next door, the busy clerk at the supermarket, or the single mom with 3 kids in tow. We may never come to realize the impact we make here in the land of the living, but I for one intend to strive to make the world a better place for those that cross my path.

I quote: " VIVA Anderson I was deeply lonely, today. You knew. You answered..not just me, all those in need..exquisite kindness, your Art, your heART. All who listen will find THE WAY..too! Thank you 🙏.................Ken Walker replied:i understand that loneliness - deep and debilitating. I am glad to be a small part of lightening your heart! :)

Ken, your backstories are integral to your heART. Having had the privilege of seeing your work on a regular basis, I would personally never wish to stop at the visual alone…you have learned the wisdom of LOOKING into the DEEP …and sharing the Beauty of the wound for others to SEE. My favorite quotation from St. Exupéry: “It is only with the eyes of the heart one sees rightly. all that is essential is invisible to the naked eye.” …and, so it is. Thank you for your glimpses …LF

Love your painting and your description....so beautifully written...so powerful and emotive...and so important for all of us to realize that a little word, smile, an ''I hear ya.'' all amount to kindness to everyone who crosses our paths. You remind us all how much of a difference it makes. Thank you for sharing your words and talent, Ken!
