“Under the surface
I hide my nerves and it worsens, I worry something is gonna hurt us
Under the surface
The ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the iceberg is
Under the surface
I think about my purpose, can I somehow preserve this?"
Just Below The Surface by Ken Walker
In the light of a blazing sun, the straw man marches on unaware of the man that lives
just below the surface.
The vastness of time contained in memories builds and flourishes,
just below the surface
Valor and mettle, the raging bull of truth push the boundaries of the possible,
just below the surface
Tender shoots of grace and mercy push through the crust, fed from true Love’s mighty roots
Just below the surface
And there the future holds untold wealth for all those willing to look deeper
Just below the surface
Artist Note - "Tonight my daughter and I re-watched the new animated Disney "Encanto". One part of a song in particular caught my attention "under the surface" - I thought about how much lies beneath the surface - some things we are aware of, and others we are not. Overcoming a significant crisis in my life [12/27/2021] I was made aware of how more there is to me that I was not aware of - a strength and purpose I wasn't aware I had. I realized that there was this perception, this "straw man" that was guiding my life - unaware of the real man underneath - building strong, waiting for a chance to shine. When we're filled with struggles of our identity or issues we'd like to overcome, many times we just need to take the time to stop and look deeper under the surface of the person WE THINK we are and open ourselves to the possibility that maybe there is just a little bit more waiting to be discovered just below the surface."
