Description
A conceptual treatise on the notion of Schadenfreude.
Artist Note: "I have been experimenting with conceptual art. Regardless of whether this meets the definition, it was fun to work on. The definition of schadenfreude: '...pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune" It's fascinating how this can be a healthy, wholesome cathartic experience when the object of misfortune is able to laugh with us. How things change when the one experiencing said misfortune is NOT joining in laughter with others. I'm sure we have all experienced the ill timed "jump scare" from behind the door prank and did not find it funny in the least. Or worst, when hurtful people find enjoyment at another's calamity simply because the values and belief are not equally shared. Hopefully, we can all arise above this and go back to a simpler time when a pie in the face was funny, or someone stumbling over a rock in the road is funny only because when all is said in done, the one who tripped is right there laughing with us.
