New painting celebrating the way of the Samurai and moving through the issues of life with passionate resolve.

I watched the Ancient One wield his katana.
Wind parts,
An artist's brush, precise and colorful,
light shining off the blade,
blinding purity.
Enemies run from the way of it.
Every step forward –
Bold
Every strike orchestrated –
Elegant
The message of the warrior that day,
lost to me
but for a single cautious tear
running down the old man’s cheek.
I’ve read the story wrong.
Not to feel love’s pain,
Or death’s fear -
This is not the way of the warrior.
Passion in life.
Movement through fear.
All with purpose.
With honor,
This is the way of the Samurai.
I have found my resolve.


Artist Note: "Today was an especially challenging day for me - confronted with some personal weakness that finally manifested themselves in real life. Left drained, my inclination is to run away and hide. To shut down and be still. So I ran into the world of my art. But I could not hide from the muse within who did not want to be silent or still. As this came into formation, I stopped and was immediately captured by the elegant violence of the piece. The teacher inside spoke, "You must move through the pain and fear with passionate resolve. Only then will the battle be won."
